Nakhon Pathom entered today’s match fourth in the table and were looking to continue their good start to the season. Ayutthaya, meanwhile, were in 17th and looking for their first win of the year.

The Thailand U22 team continued its preparations for the AFC U23 Championships with a friendly match against Chinese Taipei in Nakhon Pathom tonight. Chinese Taipei showed early on that it was not going to be an easy night for Thailand though.

Nakhon Pathom 1 – Bangkok FC 0

It is still early in the season, but it was still a big match for Nakhon Pathom and Bangkok FC this week. Both teams were still searching for their first win of the year and some early season momentum. The winner of today’s match would gain some much needed confidence, while the loser would find themselves near the bottom of the table. So, the stakes were high.

Opening Night: Nakhon Pathom 1 – Prachuap FC 1

It was opening night in Nakhon Pathom and the crown was expecting an open and exciting match between Nakhon Pathom United and Prachuap FC. Prachuap FC came in full of confidence after winning the division two playoff last year. So, both sides were expected to go forward to start the new season off right.

Friendly Match: Suphanburi 1 – Busan 1

Suphanburi took on Busan in their latest friendly match. Busan are a strong physical side from Korea that would be a real test of where Suphanburi is at the moment. Suphanburi showed their quality early creating chance after chance against the Korean side.

Get Excited about Sergio Farias

You may be asking yourself why you should be excited about the coming of Sergio Farias to Suphanburi this year. There are a number of reasons. Sergio Farias has had a long and distinguished career. He began his professional coaching career in his native country, Brazil. He coached the U-17 and U-20 Brazilian national teams. He then went on to coach Pohang in South Korea, Al-Ahli in Saudi Arabia, Al-Wasl in the UAE, and Guangzhou in China.

I got my first look at a new look Nakhon Pathom team today. One thing that was evident was the fact that Nakhon Pathom are going to be much more dangerous on set pieces this year. Every free kick and corner kick was played in with a purpose. And that focus paid off in the 12th minute when a free kick was sent in with a low driving cross that was met with a glancing header that found the back of the net.

A big factor in the improvement of set pieces for Nakhon Pathom is the addition of Kone Mohamed up front. Kone Mohamed is the new target striker for Nakhon Pathom from the Ivory Coast who will add a new dimension to the Nakhon Pathom attack this year. He is physical and strong in the air. Defenses will have no choice, but to pay attention to him which will free up the other players to attack the goal.

It is time for Suphanburi FC

Suphanburi FC have their sights set high this year and there is good reason for optimism at the club. They have been busy in the offseason and return to the Thai Premier League with a strong squad. The biggest offseason acquisition at the club may be their new Brazilian coach, Sergio Farias. Sergio comes with a high pedigree. He is a coach of the highest level who won the AFC Champion’s League in his time at Pohang in Korea. As a person who was lucky enough to see Sergio’s Pohang team play in Korea, I know the levels he is capable of taking a team to. He will bring an attractive attacking style to the club and the fans will not be disappointed. There is no limit to how far Suphanburi can go with Sergio installing his system here.

With five matches to go before the end of the season, this was a must win for Nakhon Pathom in their battle to avoid relegation. A win would drag them out of the relegation zone if results went their way elsewhere. Whereas, a loss would keep them in relegation and make the fight to survive that much tougher.

Nakhon Pathom 2 – Roi Et 1

With only one match left after tonight before the international break, this was always going to be an important match. First of all, Roi Et is one of the teams Nakhon Pathom is chasing. And secondly, to give the team confidence for the stretch run. Three points and a win were a must.
